Pitsiulak's subject matter shifts from Arctic wildlife to include elements of contemporary northern life, juxtaposing the traditional with the modern. Several of his images feature typical events out on the land, for example, outfitting motorboats, emergency snowmobile repairs, and snowmobiles pulling "qamutiit" (sleds). Broadening his range from this kind of familiar machinery, Pitsiulak began to draw highly detailed images of heavy equipment, such as dump trucks, snowplows, and other modes of northern transportation, including sealifts and airplanes. These precise depictions are imbued with an unexpected visual grace given the industrial nature of the subjects.
