Drama Queens

2007
Conceived as a theatrical play for Skulptur Projekte, Münster (2007), and subsequently performed for the camera, "Drama Queens" features a cast of iconic 20th-century sculptures grouped together on stage: Alberto Giacometti's "Walking Man" (1947), Jean Arp's "Cloud Shepherd" (1953), Andy Warhol's "Brillo Boxes" (1964), Barbara Hepworth's "Elegy III" (1966), Sol LeWitt's "Four Cubes" (1971), Ulrich Rückriem's "Untitled (Granite)" (1984), and Jeff Koons' "Rabbit" (1986). The sculptures are given voices by actors performing a script written by artist Tim Etchells. The banter that unfolds among the various sculptures - that find themselves outside of their accustomed museum environment - offers a satirical reflection upon the relationships between art, its institutions, and audiences.
