Cuba

2005
Presenting views of buildings and urban sites, these photographs by the Canadian artist Stan Douglas index Cuba's socioeconomic, political, and cultural transition from a colonial past to a post-revolutionary present. Although for the most part devoid of people, the architectonic images - repurposed buildings, private interiors, and, in many cases, entropic sites - offer a multifaceted portrait of the country and its adaptation to an alternative trajectory into modernity.
