Spear was a well-known and prolific designer of stained glass in Britain who taught lithography and stained glass at the Royal Academy of Arts in London. Among his pupils was John Piper. This print was produced for the lay members of London's Senefelder Club, formed in 1909 to promote the art of lithography.
