Agostino (after Antonio Correggio) Carracci
Christ Shown to the People
1587
Correggio’s work has been seldom treated in prints, but the Carracci were heavily influenced by the artist from Parma, a city easily accessible from Bologna. Their interest in him is documented in two letters Annibale addressed to Ludovico in Bologna while visiting Parma in 1580. While making some slight adjustments in the expressions of Christ and Pilate in this print, Agostino has, for the most part, remained faithful to Correggio’s painting, today in the National Gallery in London.
