Bird Catchers with an Owl Decoy

1582
Idealized, decorative images of rural life, such as these two sketches of bird catchers set in a gently rolling countryside, were made for the enjoyment of the middle and upper classes. They were drawn for a series of engravings depicting different types of hunting published in Antwerp in 1582 by Philip Galle.
