Beaver Pond

1921
The beaver was there always, the landscape architect, the engineer… – A.Y. Jackson Both Harris and Jackson were interested in how beavers shaped the Algoma landscape. Beaver dams also provided the artists with compositional "jigsaw puzzles" that suited both their aesthetic sensibilities. Painted at Birch Lake in Algoma, this canvas is unique in Harris’ oeuvre for its intensity of emotion and light.
