Lambert Doomer

Bank of the Loire by the Old Hermitage at Nantes

1645
This is part of a series of drawings, of which over thirty survive, made by Doomer on a sketching expedition to Nantes, where his brothers were members of the Dutch merchant community. The drawings all appear to have been made as a private record of the young artist's journey, though they concentrate less on topography than on unusual landscape forms.
