Rita Letendre

Category:
Letendre exhibited with the Automatistes in the 1950s, but by the early 1960s her work had become, in her own words, “more passionate, more agitated, more tragic.” She has said that her use of striking contrasts between bright, warm colours and stark blacks has its source in her Abenaki identity. She painted this canvas during a stay in Israel. The title refers to a popular meeting place for Tel Aviv artists.
