Apollo Victorious over Python

Armed with bow and arrows, Apollo, god of the sun, descends in a glory of light to defeat the dark serpent, Python. The symbolism of this battle between the powers of good, represented by the idealized young god, and the powers of evil - the coiled reptile defending its idol - appealed to the artist's sense of drama.
