Giovanni Domenico Tiepolo

Angels and Putti in the Clouds

c. 1783
Domenico sketched numerous images of angels and putti amid the clouds in endless varieties of pose amassing a vast repertoire of figure groupings upon which he could draw for imagery. Although there is no direct connection between this pair of sketches and any known paintings, the groups are typical of the peripheral figures who make up the heavenly throng in his religious commissions.
