Alexanderplatz

Robin Collyer's photographs are investigations into our cultural landscape and the various elements that give it meaning and significance. In "Alexanderplatz", Collyer has taken an unconventional picture of the famous Berlin plaza, shooting from behind the sign on top of the railway station. The back of some of the letters comprising the name "Alexanderplatz" appear, as well as the facing facade of the Berolinahaus, which was under renovation at the time. "Alexanderplatz" depicts Collyer's preoccupation with the interplay of text and urban structures, as well as his interest in facade and the surface markers such as text in signage that appear to establish coherence in the urban setting.
