Luis Jacob

Album VII

2008
Luis Jacob's "Albums" (2000–) each explore a particular theme or formal motif and are frieze-like "image banks" of photographs culled from a variety of publications. "Album VII" focuses on the human body and its relationship to inanimate objects. Here, states the artist, "moments of nakedness and exposure alternate between a sense of freedom and vulnerability," creating what he describes as "a space for the imagination that is as idiosyncratic and unique as each viewer." Jacob blurs the lines between that which is alive and that which is not and proposes that our bodies' openness to the world allows for a wide array of experiences.
