Acre: An Amazonian Stage

2006
In 2006 Turcot spent several months in Acre, a state in Brazil’s Amazon region, investigating the effects of climate change and global competition for resources, which have had ruinous effects on vast areas of forest. This suite of dreamlike drawings examines the social, cultural, environmental and economic context of Acre, incorporating knowledge gained from local communities. In the last fifteen years, creative steps have been taken in this region toward autonomy and environmental and economic sustainability.
