William Brymner

A Wreath of Flowers

1884
Brymner studied in Paris for almost seven years before settling in Montreal in 1886, where he influenced an entire generation of artists at the Art Association of Montreal. Considered his masterpiece, this work demonstrates the artist’s careful treatment of light, use of subtle tones and interest in detail. In this way, it reveals a shift in style toward Impressionism owing to Brymner’s studies in France.
