Category:
Produced between 1962 and 1963, five sculptures comprise Rabinowitch’s series "Five Addresses to Giacometti’s "Le Nez" - Five Judgments on the Basis of Abstract Thinking". Each one is dedicated to Swiss artist Alberto Giacometti’s sculpture "Le Nez" (1947), which features the profile of a human head with an elongated nose, similar to that of Pinocchio, suspended in a metal structure like the one seen here. "Order" is suggested by the tools of measurement and "Beauty," a quality that is impossible to measure, is addressed by the inclusion of organic objects. The second part of the title comes from the 18th-century German philosopher Immanuel Kant’s "Critique of Judgment" (1790), also known as the third critique.
