Melanie Authier

“Certainly I have intentions as an abstract painter, but I don’t want to distract from the pleasures that people can have viewing painting in general.” 2009

Melanie Authier is an established abstract painter.  Born in Montreal in 1980, she holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Concordia University in Montreal, 2002 and a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Guelph, Ontario, 2006. Authier maintains a studio practice in Ottawa, where she is a Part-Time Professor at the University of Ottawa in the Department of Visual Arts.

While Authier’s abstract works, Augury, 2010, seem to hint at a fantasy landscape full of curious details and irregularities, the frenzied, chaotic worlds of these paintings demonstrates Authier’s steadfast commitment to the medium of painting itself.

In 2007 she was awarded the Honourable Mention Prize the 9th Annual RBC Painting Competition.
