The Venice Biennale is the oldest and most important contemporary art exhibition in the world. It is to art what the World Cup is to soccer or the Olympics are to athletics. With the selection of Vancouver artist Steven Shearer, Canada is once again sending one of its most acclaimed artists to represent the country on the world stage.
This year the National Gallery of Canada is the commissioning institution for the Canada Pavilion, funded in part by the Canada Council for the Arts, the Contemporary Art Circle of the National Gallery, and a growing list of private philanthropists from across Canada and beyond.
