Real Life draws connections between two very different artists who share a common interest in a direct hands-on approach capable of bridging the gap between experience and our reflection on it.
This summer, explore the drama and contradiction in the human condition through the intimate and contemporary works of two internationally acclaimed artists: sculptor Ron Mueck and video and installation artist Guy Ben-Ner.
Ron Mueck
The hyper-realist sculptures of Australian-born, London-based Ron Mueck depict some of life’s blunt realities: that we are born into a world that is not of our making, and that aging and death are unavoidable.
Guy Ben-Ner
Israeli-born, Berlin-based Guy Ben-Ner, by contrast, often uses humour to tackle our everyday “real life” through engaging videos and installations featuring himself and his family.
Together, these two artists create a dialogue about the balance between the physical and emotional elements of the human condition. Real Life offers a new opportunity to investigate Mueck’s sculptures in detail, and presents an in-depth look at Ben-Ner’s work.
