Discover two documentaries on the artist. In the Lecture Hall. Screenings are free.
At 2 pm, I Don’t Have to Work That Big, 1973 (Dir. Michael McKennirey, 27 min) in English. In 1973, Fafard and his series of sculptures of Pense townspeople were featured in this documentary film produced by the National Film Board of Canada. Screened later that year by the CBC, the documentary catapulted the young Fafard into the national spotlight.
At 3pm, Joe Fafard: Sculpter les origines, 2003 (Dir. Lorian Bélanger, 53 min) in French with English subtitles. This film explores the life and work of artist Joe Fafard featuring exclusive footage of private collections of the artist’s oeuvre.
Artsparks
Thursday 20 March from 7 until 11 pm
Don’t miss this funky program that mixes art, music, commentary, and hands-on projects in a lively atmosphere. The program includes a visit to the exciting exhibition of Joe Fafard’s sculptures. Participants will create animal sculptures out of metal or clay in the studio. Then on to the Tour Group Lobby for a cash bar and dancing to the indie beats of the Hilotrons and DJ Teknobrat. Cost $10 (Members $8).
Sunday Painters Workshops

For artists at heart! Tune in to your creative side and join in this popular adult workshop series. Over the course of these five workshops, add new art techniques to your repertoire and find inspiration in the works of the renowned Canadian sculptor Joe Fafard. The program includes tours of the special exhibition Joe Fafard and the permanent collection, as well as in-gallery sketching and the exploration of a wide range of media. Salt and Pepper Workshops
Wednesdays 19, 26 March, 2, 9 and 16 April from 9 am to 12:30 pm
Entice your senses of touch, sight, smell, and – most importantly – taste while savouring this creative series of workshops designed specifically for aspiring artists aged 55 and up. Discover the multiple facets of sculpture, experiment with several techniques and create original three-dimensional artworks. Stimulating The Senses
Thursday 27 March from 6 to 7:30 pm
Discover art through senses other than sight! For the first time, you will have the unique opportunity to explore a special exhibition that highlights the work of Joe Fafard, a remarkable Saskatchewan artist. This tactile tour will focus on Fafard’s sculptures of cows and horses, including his large bronze commissions for private and public spaces. Cost: $5 (Members $3).
