Discover a different world of art at the National Gallery’s Prints, Drawings and Photographs Study Room!

The Prints, Drawings and Photographs Study Room is open to all interested members of the public who wish to visit. Here, in specially designed bright and spacious surroundings, you may view at your leisure original works of art on paper that are part of the National Gallery’s permanent collection of prints, drawings, watercolours, pastels, miniatures, woodcuts, wood engravings, etchings, aquatints and lithographs.

Over 7,000 Canadian prints and drawings from the 18th century to the present day including works by Inuit artists; more than 9,500 European works from the 15th to the 20th century; approximately 1,000 American works and a few Asian treasures; all form the nucleus of an ever-growing and impressive collection.

The Photographs Collection contains outstanding examples of both 19th and 20th century photography, including work by widely recognized photographers as well as emerging artists. With almost 22,000 photographs covering the entire history of photography, this international collection is ranked among the finest.

The Prints, Drawings and Photographs Study Room is open from 11 am to 4 pm, Wednesday to Friday for Photography, and from 1 pm to 4 pm, Wednesday and Thursday, for Prints & Drawings. Make your appointment at least one week in advance, by telephone at (613) 990-1960 or studyrm@gallery.ca.
