Uuturautiit: Cape Dorset Celebrates 50 Years of Printmaking

13 Jan 2012 - 01 Apr 2012

Red Deer Museum and Art Gallery, Red Deer

Organized by the National Gallery of Canada in collaboration with Dorset Fine Arts

In 2009, Cape Dorset, Nunavut, celebrated fifty years of printmaking. While experimentation began in 1957, the inaugural collection was released during the summer of 1959. This exhibition acknowledges the importance of the 50th anniversary by pairing the most recent and innovative work from the renamed Kinngait Studios with the complete 1959 collection. Extremely rare, the latter has been re-assembled for the first time in five decades.
