Misled by Nature: Contemporary Art and the Baroque
14 Sep 2012 - 06 Jan 2013
Art Gallery of Alberta
This exhibition examines a range of contemporary artistic production defined through and emphasis on material excess, accumulation, bravado, asymmetry, and theatricality. In many cases, the impact of such art is decidedly visual and primeval, with artists creating powerfully immersive environments that are both cognizant of and reliant on the viewer’s psychological experience and understanding of the signs and symbols of contemporary life.
Organized by the National Gallery of Canada and the Art Gallery of Alberta.
