The Great Parade: Portrait of the Artist as Clown

25 Jun 2004 - 22 Aug 2004

It’s a circus at the National Gallery of Canada this week with the opening of the highly anticipated summer exhibition The Great Parade: Portrait of the Artist as Clown, on view from June 25 to September 19. This spectacular exhibition of nearly 200 paintings, drawings, prints, vintage photographs, sculptures and videos takes an original look at more than 200 years of art inspired by the magic of the circus. The Great Parade: Portrait of the Artist as Clown, organized by the National Gallery of Canada, includes masterpieces by modern artists fascinated by the Big Top, such as Picasso, Toulouse-Lautrec, Degas, Chagall, Calder and Arbus.
