The Governor General’s Awards in Visual and Media Arts celebrate the career achievements of Canada’s finest artists, acknowledging excellence in the visual and media arts. The 2011 winners are photographer Geneviève Cadieux, visual artist Robert Fones, performance and visual artist Michael Morris, filmmakers David Rimmer and Barbara Sternberg, painter Shirley Wiitasalo, mtalsmith Kye-Yeon Son (Saidye Bronfman Award for excellence in fine crafts) and art critic and journalist Nancy Tousley (Outstanding Contribution Award). The exhibition is organized by the National Gallery of Canada in collaboration with the Canada Council for the Arts and the Governor General of Canada.
