This recent composition began with the artist's experiments with some cut-out shapes of two of her favourite birds - gulls and ravens - which she arranged in various ways on a sheet of paper. Playing on the contrast of dark and light, positive and negative spaces, the black ravens were eventually overlaid on the white cut-out shapes of the gulls. The result was this multi-layered print, which used two lithographic stones and five colour blends to achieve the translucency of colours Kenojuak desired. Master printers Pitseolak Niviaqsi and William Ritchie worked with Kenojuak on the project.
