Slopes at Pontoise, 1874
Camille Pissarro
Danish, French, 1830
- 1903
etching with plate tone on wove paper
16.5 x 24.5 cm irregular; plate: 12.1 x 16 cm
Purchased 1974
National Gallery of Canada (no. 18073)
This is one of seven etchings that Pissarro executed with the Auvers group during the period from 1873 to 1874. This impression was made outside of the edition of 12 signed and numbered prints and it bears the collector’s stamp of Paul Gachet, suggesting that Gachet kept the plate and continued to make impressions, just as he did with Vincent van Gogh’s "Portrait of Doctor Gachet" (1890).
