Named for a Toronto collector who commissioned work by Serra in the late 1960s, the two industrially-produced steel plates that form this piece each weigh some 800 kilograms, giving it a grandeur appropriate for honouring a patron. The sections of this work are kept stable and upright only by their great weight and the way they are wedged into opposite corners of the room. As you move through "Davidson Gate", the flanking steel plates appear to swing toward you, momentarily seeming unstable, even dangerous.
