The Milne-Duncan Bequest, 1970
National Gallery of Canada (no. 15960)
Milne depicted the same kind of rural Ontario subject matter as Schaefer, but with a different approach. Schaefer's images were essays on the symbolic nature of man and the land, while Milne's were explorations of the qualities of line, colour, and form, which sought to replicate the artist's emotional and visual response to a scene.
