The nude was not a common subject for Pissarro as he rarely worked with a model, but from 1894-1896 he undertook several prints of bathers, possibly inspired by Paul Cézanne. In his correspondence, Pissarro describes the series as “printed drawings in a romantic style... of "Bathers" in all sorts of poses in an earthly paradise.”
