Schaeffer attributed the work to Roelandt Savery. According to Schaeffer's stock books, the painting had been on consignment with Schaeffer from Mr. or Mrs. Keachie of Winnipeg beginning in November 1961, and was purchased by the gallery one month later [Schaeffer Gallery records, ID no. 910148-7, Stock card no. 2138, Getty Research Institute, Los Angeles]
