"[I walked] over the grassy ruins of the village, up and down but rarely round because there is nothing that you cannot walk over. Here and there a stovepipe sticking out of a pile of brick and stone, mostly pulverized, marks a cellar shelter. You are apt to tumble down the entrance if you are not careful."
