This was originally the right-hand section of a work entitled "Scherzo", which included another panel, "Fabrique des fleurs magiques" (Factory of magic flowers). The artist decided to separate the two parts in about 1956. The work, displaying Pellan's vivacious painting style, follows the growth cycle of a plant from germination to flowering.
