"Provincial Sideboard" is a replica of a Canadian-made sideboard that the artist had seen in the Canadiana collection of the Royal Ontario Museum. A W.H. Bartlett print entitled "A First Settlement" hangs above the sideboard; both objects appear to have passed through a fire. In the original print, the settler's family pauses by a campfire, nearby a freshly-killed deer waits to be eaten and an almost-completed cabin stands behind them in a forest clearing. However in Magor's retouched version the campfire is out and smoke pours from a destroyed cabin. The wry humour of "Provincial Sideboard" pits dreams against disillusionment.
