"Caribou, Winter Light" is one of nine images by Niviaksiak published in Cape Dorset's first print collection. Its making involved not only the artist but also Joanasie Salamonie, who cut the stencils, and Lukta Qiatsuk and Osuitok Ipeelee, who printed the edition of 30. This collaborative production continues in most Inuit print studios. Following these early experiments, stencil printmaking has been sometimes combined with stonecut printing but also developed as an independent medium.
