Shirt Two, January 1970

Betty Goodwin
Canadian, 1923 - 2008
soft-ground etching and etching in dark-blue on wove paper
79.9 x 63.4 cm; plate: 70 x 55.3 cm
Gift of Martin Goodwin, Montreal, 1989
National Gallery of Canada (no. 30559)

Six months after making "Shirt One", Goodwin animates the garment, giving it a living presence. The "46" may be a reference to Jasper Johns' prints of numbers. It was also her son's birth year, suggesting that this was his shirt.
