Dante Gabriel Rossetti British, 1828
graphite on heavy wove paper 25.2 x 21.4 cm Purchased 1948
National Gallery of Canada (no. 5545)
A characteristic study of a female figure by Rossetti in his most neutral manner contrasts with a more sentimental and overwrought drawing by the same artist exhibited nearby. The face of this known sitter was one of his favourite models, and her likeness is recognizable in many of his paintings.
