In 2011, Leslie Reid spent three days in Cape Pine, Newfoundland, a community that had been scarred by a family tragedy three decades earlier. Reid recalls feeling the victims' presence in "all the richness of detail and nuance of the place: by the cairn, by the station, by the tracks marked in the gravel." Translating her sentiments onto canvas, these recent works resonate meaningfully with some of her earliest forays into landscape painting. "In choosing these images for the paintings," she comments, "I was aware of a very strong resonance with my own family history and life, and with what I have long been searching for in my work."
