"Objects Waiting" represents a foray into photography for Max Dean, an artist well-known for his technologically driven interactive sculptures. Here the one-time Ottawa resident, whose works have been collected by the NGC since the 1970s, uses the still image to reflect on his relationship to objects from his home and studio that in some cases he has held since childhood. A number of the photos relate to previous works and performances from early in his career. "Objects wait," Dean explains, "they wait for us to interact with them. We impart meaning, not in the things but in our selves ... The criterion for a successful photo was that I could give away the object. What I felt about it had been expressed, had found form."
