In 1930, Lawren Harris joined A.Y. Jackson aboard the Beothic, an RCMP supply ship, on its annual circuit, with stops at posts along the coastlines of Greenland, Ellesmere Island, and Baffin Island. Harris's deeply held spiritual beliefs led him to describe the north as "a source of spiritual flow," and his voyage there was a search for both artistic and spiritual insight.
