This print employs symmetry, one of Ashevak’s trademark compositional tools, which highlights the play of positive and negative space. Here the space between two seagulls facing one another becomes the outline of an owl. The image is enhanced with the addition of long, curvilinear shapes radiating from the central figures. The overall effect is one of balance between its artistic elements, as well as the representational and the imagined.
