The Co-op store sits in the centre of Cape Dorset. The hub of the community, it is both a place to hang out and provider of essential supplies and services. The first store was built in 1961, but it has been upgraded and replaced several times since. The current structure is large, modern and fully equipped. Pootoogook’s fine eye for movement and extraordinary attention to detail bring the viewer right into the store with her, creating a shared understanding of her daily life, which is not as remote and unfamiliar as one might have thought.
