Tara, 14th century
Unknown (Central Tibet - 14th century)
gilt copper with inlay
38.7 cm high
Gift of Max Tanenbaum, Toronto, 1980
National Gallery of Canada (no. 26722)
This very fine sculpture was created from separately cast elements: the base, the goddess, and her ornaments. A casting crack can be observed on the figure's left forearm; also visible are the openings on her arms where the copper lotus stems, now lost, were once attached.
