Jambhala, Buddhist God of Wealth, 13th century
Unknown (Central Tibet - 13th century)
bronze with inlay
48.2 cm high
Gift of Max Tanenbaum, Toronto, 1980

This Himalayan bronze of remarkable dimensions is inlaid and painted with red lacquer for the god's lips and nails. Bronze is a fragile material: the back of the statue was seriously damaged, most probably during a fall.
