Allan Edson Canadian, 1846
oil on millboard 22.8 x 32.2 cm Gift of Elizabeth and Edgar Collard, Montreal, 1977
National Gallery of Canada (no. 18938)
This early work by Edson was possibly painted under the direct tutelage of Duncanson. The brilliant sunset and lush landscape with exotic palm-like trees are clearly inspired by Duncanson's "The Land of the Lotus Eaters" (1861).
