The objects that played a part in Gathie Falk's performance work of the 1960s and 1970s have often served as inspiration for her ceramic pieces and paintings. In her performance piece "Skipping Ropes", participants were invited to remove their shoes and place them in a row, and "Eighteen Pairs of Red Shoes with Roses" followed from that carefully scripted act.
