This simple, spare form whimsically invites free association. Is it the whale that swallowed the biblical Jonah, punished by God for insubordination and reborn three days later when the whale spat him onto shore? Or is it the plug removed from a knothole in a piece of plywood, the peering eye behind the hole . . . ?
