oil on canvas 203.1 x 126.3 cm Purchased 1913
National Gallery of Canada (no. 768)
This full-length portrait shows Charles I the year before he ascended the throne. He wears decorations from England's ancient order of chivalry, the Order of the Garter. Keenly interested in the arts, several paintings that once belonged to this monarch were included in the exhibition The Queen's Pictures.
