Lawren Harris was one of young Carl Schaefer's first mentors. Harris's "house portraits" were clearly the prototype for Schaefer's house subjects; and the sharply defined pen-and-ink drawing style used by Harris and other members of the Group of Seven would become the style adopted by Schaefer and many of his contemporaries.
