Six seasons were observed in India: summer, monsoon, autumn, winter, cool season and spring. Vasanta Raga is associated with spring when "Holi", the major "festival of colours," takes place. This musical mode is "male" and is played from 1:00 to 4:00 in the morning. The female figure at left plays the "mridanga", the oldest type of Indian percussion instrument.
